Thank you to everyone that replied on the forum and privately! I have learned an enormous amount from all of you. I apologize for not responding to the people that have emailed privately. It's been one heck of a week to say the least. Since posting, we have definitely learned that Truman was/is trying to go up the ladder in the pack. I guess from the things that I was doing, I really wasn't allowing him to go up the pack. Obviously, I wasn't gonna allow him to destroy Thor in order for him to do that. I also learned that I was probably "feeding his behavior" with all the treats I was giving Truman. (i.e., he hackles, growls, I make him focus on me, treat) No wonder why Truman thought it was so much fun to be a jerk, I was rewarding him for it! At the time I definitely didn't think of it that way.

So, we have tried to take a calmer approach in allowing Truman to do things first before Thor does some things. It seems to have helped, but we keep a very close eye on everyone. All the dogs have been out together without incident, no leashes, no muzzles, no treats. And I couldn't be happier. We can tell that Thor has somewhat but not readily accepted the role of being on the bottom of the totem pole just yet and he just does not go by Truman unless he has to.

We still have an appt next Monday to see the trainer/behaviorist to help us understand what we can do to make life easier for everyone. Then, we will have to focus on the resource guarding outside of the home. I don't know how or even if that will be curbed but I will definitely make sure I bring Trumans muzzled with me everywhere I go!

Oh the joys of dog psychology...
