As you say, what does it matter, blues are here now and part of the gene pool. Whether they were pre-1983 or not, really makes no odds to anyone.

I know you guys in the USA do things slightly differently and have different registries, but for those that use the SABT, has anyone had a blue dog appraised in the last 5 years? What was the appraiser's view on the colour? I know that liver noses are still not acceptable, but not sure about blue with black pigment?

As a complete aside, my sister's Blue brindle Boerboel was bred to a pure (German) bred Rhodesian Ridgeback. The resulting pups were: 2 x red brindle, 1 x blue brindle with black pigment, 2 x blue fawn with liver pigment. Maybe this answers the original question as the RR is well known to have played an integral part in the Boerboel breed over the last century, pre-1983.
