I guess I don't judge anyone by one liner emails. I have had many great interactions with dog breeders and horse people alike that were started with one liners, and yes, over 50% of those one liners were "How much?"
I come from a place that we just don't beat around the bush. No sense in wasting one another's time if you can't afford it. And with the majority of boerboel breeders out there playing the "private treaty" pricing where there is nothing posted, I can't blame anyone that emails me with that being their only question. If my price is too much, then we're most likely done talking. If its not, then maybe we can carry on the conversation. In working with many other breeders of many different breeds, I know MANY very worthy owners that WORK their dogs that refuse to pay over, say, $800 for a pup. And if money isn't what is important to you, post how much you ask for right on your site per pup, or overall, etc. When its left a mystery, people are bound to ask. Not to mention, I know a lot of great people out there that just aren't computer savvy, either. So one liners are the easiest way to get in touch with some people if you don't have access to their phone number. After a few emails, or better yet, a phone call or two, then I can decide if they are the kind of person that will be a good home for a puppy. And I do try my hardest to deal with people like I have been dealt with by old ranchers with their dogs and horses. If its not gonna fit me, then they let me know. And I try to do that with potential homes, as well. I have turned away five people already, and this will be our first boerboel litter. That leaves me with quite a few deposit openings for us, and that can potentially hurt the pocketbook! But like it was said before by someone else, thinking ahead to the outcome is more important to me than making a buck. And I also agree that taking a hit in price to place a puppy with a great home is in my future, as well!
Just my two cents on the matter, better late than never, I guess!
Lena
