Lee I read the article. I think that the pups trying to establish rank at this age is appropriate. I do use toys and tugs but they are not the same as eating the meat.

I think the swinging meat helps stimulate the pups prey drive. With boerboel I think that the benefits of early prey drive stimulation outweigh the dog aggression and possessiveness. I only say this because IME some boerboels can lack prey drive with this exercise you can see who may lack and who may excel. IME the puppies off to the side are not the strongest pups in the litter. Feeding time is a good indicator of that. Not to say that in time they can not develop into good high quality strong puppies and vice versa . This does not mean that the stronger puppies will remain strong all the way into adult hood. All this does is give a potential puppy owner an idea of what type of puppy they are starting out with.
