I suffer from what you are talking about, sleep paralysis. It happens to me about 50% of the time I sleep on my back. First heavy presure. Then the feeling that someone is in the room with you. Next, it feels like you are awake, but cannot get your body to move/react. Often, I think I hear things, alarming thing (they sound loud to me). Then I usually jump, literally out of bed (or sofa if i doze off there), and I look all around for someone else. It is just sleep paralysis I think, Basically, your senses are aware, your mind is half was in it sleep/dream state and physically your body is at rest. I usually always sleep on my stomach and I have never experienced it that way, it only happens when I sleep on my back.
