I was at the last Fort Mifflin overnight in February 2001, and had an absolute blast. It started out with a demonstration of the investigating equipment used, then we were led on a general ghost tour, explaining the history of the fort. Then we split up into teams and spent about 45 minutes in each of three sites (the case mates, the powder magazine, and the blacksmith shop). During this time, we used the equipment and tried to get results by "calling out" the ghosts. Most of this time was spent in complete darkness and silence, except for the person speaking to the ghosts. Then we split up into different teams and were allowed to go to whichever site we preferred. In between each activity we were given time to take a break and warm ourselves by the fire. By about 3:30am, most people just wanted to sleep in the soldier's quarters. I went with a small group over to the officer's quarters and tried calling out a woman who killed herself in that building. We didn't see anything, but we heard quite a bit. At one point we heard someone walking across the floor in the room above us. It was so loud that we thought there must be another group up there, so we sent someone up to check. Not only was there no one up there, but the door was locked. We also heard someone walking across the second floor balcony and shuffling right outside the door to the room we were in. Upon inspection, we found that everyone else (outside of our small group) was in the soldiers quarters at the time!! If you are chosen for the next overnight, I suggest that you get plenty of sleep before hand. You don't want to miss out on any valuable investigating time, plus it seems like more things happen when everything starts to wind down. Also, make sure you dress for the weather-it's cold out there! Good luck!!
