Your discussion got me thinking about the whole subject of globes vs. diamonds. The globe, or circle is the most common shape for organic matter. A circle is the form which requires the least energy to maintain, as in a cell, soap bubble or a planet. A diamond or square requires angles. Obvious angular things in nature are crystals. A diamond is more like refracted light, (or perhaps the product of multiple creatures of pure light.) Interesting to think about...
