i attended kutztown university from 1985-1987, one night a group of friends & i took a ride up to hawk mountain, we weren't from around there & had no knowledge of the story. there were about 6 of us crammed in an old volkswagen beetle & it was really foggy on this narrow little road. we came around a corner & i saw standing in the middle of the road (apparently the only road) an old man with a longer grey beard, looked he was either holding something or leaning on something (honestly it looked like an axe or a hoe). everyone abruptly stopped talking & nick (the driver) slammed his brakes on, we stopped, gaped at the guy then he just disappeared - not into the fog, it was like he just kind of "faded". scared the crap out of us, when we went back to the university that night & told one of the r.a.'s what happened she turned sheet white & told us the story. i'd go back now, although i don't know exactly where we were - but not alone, no way.
