Hi,

Just wanted to say you have NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! Your experiences are extremely common and are well understood and medically documented. Try a site to do with sleep disorders and you will find literally dozens of almost identical experiences posted. This quite scary phenomenon can occur when you are tired, worn out or exhaused, and is linked to the body's sleep patterns and muscle motor inhibitors; i.e. it is the body's way of disconnecting the mind from the body when asleep. For example, if you were to dream you were playing baseball, without this disconnecting procedure your body would actually take a swipe at a dreamed ball, or if you were dreaming of running, your legs would be actually moving! What is really scary is when your subconscious wakes into consciousness whilst the sleep inhibitors are still in place. You can experience a horrible feeling of helplessness, inability to move a muscle, and experience a rather unpleasant sensation of a weight on your chest pinning you down, and the overpowering sensation that something is in the room that is evil. My advice: browse some sleep disorder websites and heave a sigh of relief! Your experiences are quite common and harmless, if scary! Hope that helps: I know what I am talking about, if unused to explaining it well, so sorry for that!!! Good luck.

Nigel D.
