Subject: Draft scenarios

Problem Scenario #1
Bob does not want to carry his walk-man

Bob works out in the gym everyday as a part of his arthritis treatment. He is turning 60 this year. He was a high school teacher previous to his retirement. He also takes a walk every morning. Bob likes to listen to some calming music and motivational lectures very early in the morning. He currently has some tapes that he carries with him when he goes out for his walk and workout. He takes with him a small cassette-player-walkman to listen to music, which also has a radio player, and a couple of cassettes in a pouch that he fastens to his belt-line when he walks and works out. He finds it a hassle to carry the cassettes, flip them each time a side has ended and would like to listen to his choice of songs without having to tow so many things with him. Besides, his walk lasts for about an hour and a half every day and he has to therefore replace the batteries in the walk-man every three days.
Recently his grandson Matthew, received a MP3 player for a birthday present and it plays CDs, radio and is lightweight. Matthew showed him that there is a way to transfer material from cassettes to CDs and that one can download some music from the Internet. Bob wonders now if he can transfer a mix of these lectures and music together but he does not know how to do this by himself. He wonders if he should have one and what the cost may be. He thinks that it is better to have this player than to carry a walk-man but he does not want to spend too much time and money to adapt to this new player. He decides he will ask his grandson to show him exactly how to use the new player and how it works.

Problem Scenario #2
Bob learns how to use an MP3 player.

Bob speaks to his grandson Matthew about his wish to see a demonstration of how the MP3 player works. Matthew shows Bob the various controls. Then they move their attention to the subject of downloading music to the player. Bob is not very computer savvy and even though he has used the Internet before, it has only been to procure specific information about directions and movie times. He has a friend who orders groceries online and has heard some complaints from this friend about the complicatedness in placing an order online. Besides Bob does not trust that contents of some of these websites to be legally placed. As Matthew navigates his way about a web site to show how to download the exact type of music and the specific album, Bob finds himself getting lost as Matthew clicks one after the other link. Besides, the print on the website makes Bob squint his eyes to read any information. He voices that he is getting lost in this process of searching for the music of his choice, to Matthew and Matthew suggests that there is also online help available to learn the process. But Bob finds it difficult to read so much information constantly as his eyes begin to hurt. He asks Matthew if this is the procedure on all websites where one can download music from, and learns that the process varies from one site to another. Bob is filled with doubt when he learns this, about his willingness to figure out a different method each time he wants to download music from different web sites.
