Subject: Exterior garage roofing question

Our home and outside garage were built about the same time, 1985. When we replaced the roof on our home, we replaced the 1/2" plywood with 3/4" exterior OSB sheathing. Anyway, the roof on the exterior garage needs replaced and I wanted to ask a question about the sheathing as I'm thinking about doing the job myself. Because it's detached and unheated from our home, the sheathing appears to be in good shape. But I'm sure it's the same 1/2" ply used on the house -- also the roofer left me enough good ply from the house job to do the garage. So, what I'm asking should a new roof here be simply replacing the existing roof; or, should the plywood from the house be laid over the existing sheathing to make a full 1". The rafters are on 24" O.C.
Thanks,
Gary
