Subject: flat roof to pitch or not to pitch

We have a flat roof that was put on in 1994 (tar and gravel). We bought the house in 1998 and we have had leaks every year. What are our options for pitching the roof while making it cost effective for us? In other words, what is the cheapest best way to do our roof?
Sincerely,
Wendy Corn

The cheapest way to do your roof is to tear of the existing flat roof and install another one. If there is not a lot of saddles built on the roof deck that are flowing water to the drains it will be cheaper to build these then put trusses on your roof. You might even need more or bigger drains. These improvements should help with a lot of problems that standing water can cause. I do think that your best option though would be to roll trusses across your roof. Ask your contractor but it might not be necessary to even tear off the existing roof. I would recommend a 6/12 pitch over a 4/12 also.
