Realistic expectations in Washington can run 15 to 45 years depending on whether they are treated or not, heavies or mediums, 7.5" to the weather or 10" to the weather, and quality can run from premiums to trac wood. You can pay $12 or $19 for your rolls of felt paper and that can add more time in the end to your roof also.

If you were to have treated premium medium cedar shakes installed at 7.5" to the weather with the good quality ASTM felt paper fastened with stainless steel fasteners (as required by manufacturer) you will get a 50yr Manufacturer's Warranty and a 30yr Workmanship Warranty from us.

You go the cheapest cedar roof possible you be lucky to find a manufacturer's warranty offered and an 8yr workmanship warranty from us.

Hope this helps,
A Roofer
