A square is a 10' by 10' area. Thats 100 sq ft. If you know the pitch of you roof there are factors that you could multiply the sq footage of the area below the roof by making sure you allow for the two foot overhangs. Make sure to allow for waste in your calculations. Full hip homes have a higher waste factor then say a gable house. I always personally climb on a roof to measure it because there is nothing worse for me then to measure a house smaller then it is and have to take it out of the profit. You have to make sure to also add starter, ridge, and any flashings you will need.
