Okay, here's my scenario. Enjoy.
The Imperial fleet dropped out of hyperspace near to the large moon. The information from the captured Ferengi freighter had been sketchy at best. They knew this was the seat of government for the most powerful star nation in this quadrant, but little beyond that. The Emperor had ordered that this galaxy be brought under his rule, and Admiral Warspite intended to do just that, starting here!
There had been some hope that their approach might be undetected, but it immedietely became obvious that wasn't going to happen. There appeared to be large inhabited areas on the moon, and numerous sensor arrays. A quick scan revealed that the moon did not have a planetary shield. A fatal mistake for its doomed inhabitents.
With a smile of satisfaction, the Imperial commander gave the order to fire. Each ship fired a single turbolaser at the large domes below. Some domes were destroyed outright, others just took heavy damage. Rocks and dust were blasted into the thin atmosphere, obscuring the demolished remains.
Admiral Warspite watched in statisfaction.
"Begin phase two!" he ordered.
Each ship began to move away from the moon, opening up a clear view of the Earth. As they moved, they began belching TIE fighters and bombers. The TIE bombers and standard TIE fighters immedietely headed down to the moon below, intent on adding their destruction to the carnage below. The few advanced TIE fighters remained with the capital ships to provide cover as needed.
On board the capital ships, the astrogators and the tactical sections worked furiously.
"Tactical report" ordered Admiral Warspite.
"We're picking up multiple ships, best estimate is 37 ships and numerous 'fighter' class ships."
"Course?" asked the Admiral.
******
On board the USS Sovereign, Admiral Hayes listened with horror to the reports of destruction coming in from the moon. There were over 50 million people living there, and that alien fleet was bombarding the defenceless domes.
"Tactical, what have we got available?" asked Admiral Hayes.
"We've got 10 Prometheus class Warships, 10 Intrepid class vessels, 10 Galaxy class ships, 2 Soveriegn class ships (including us of course sir!), 5 Defiant class, and 6 squadrons of Peregrines. There is also the Space Dock sir." answered the Tactical officer. "Elements of the 6th fleet can be here in four hours, that would bring another 112 ships!"
Hayes nodded grimly. This was going to get nasty. He didn't know who the aliens were, but their ships were sure big buggers. One of them measured over 17km long, and most were bigger than his ships.
"Okay people, let's get to it." he said. "Helm lay in an intercept course. We can't wait four hours, we've got to help the moon now. Spacedock will have to cover the back door for now."
The Federation turned quickly around, and headed towards the aliens attackers.
"Order all ships to concentrate on the big guy!" said the Admiral. "If we can destroy that, they might break off!"
******
"They are headed directly for us." reported the Tactical officer on the Executor.
"Excellent!" answered Admiral Warspite. "Is astrogation ready?"
"Yes sir" answered another officer.
"Very well, wait until they open fire, then execute plan end-run."
******
Admiral Hayes watched the viewer with satisfaction. They were closing rapidly on the enemy. The aliens appeared to be simply waiting for them to attack. Very well, let's oblige them, he thought.
"Admiral Hayes to fleet. Lock onto the largest ship.......and FIRE!"
Lances of phaser fire shot out from the starships, and volleys of torpedoes left the launch tubes. But before the torpedoes could strike home, the ships appeared to simply vanish.
"What the hell?" exclaimed Hayes. "Tactical report!"
The tactical officer looked astounded.
"Sir, I don't know how, but the enemy appeared to engage some kind of jump drive. They moved into a deep subspace dimension, then accelerated past us at thousands of times the speed of light. They are now back in real space in Earth orbit."
Hayes went pale. It all suddenly made sense. The attack on the moon had been a lure, simply to get him to come out from Earth orbit.
"Fleet orders," he shouted. "All ships return to Earth immedietely. Attack at will."
******
Admiral Warspite gave a predatory grin as he saw the helpless blue-green planet floating outside his bridge window.
"Begin phase three" he ordered.
As he watched, the TIE fighters that had been attacking the moon climbed back into space, and raced after the enemy ships. He didn't expect the TIEs to do much damage (in fact he expected them all to die), but he did hope that they would provide a distraction and delay the enemies return. They might even do some damage.
His capital ships were splitting up and belching shuttles and landers. The shuttles and landers dropped directly into the atmosphere, heading for the west coast on one of the large continents. They job was to secure a place called...'San Fran Cisco'? The Admiral wasn't sure if he had pronounced it correctly, but that wasn't important. The few advanced TIE fighters that had hyperdrive (and had therefore stayed with the capital ships), escorted the shuttles down.
In orbit, the SSD, the ISDs and the Dreadnoughts headed directly for the large orbitting space station, and immedietely opened fire. The Lancers began destroying all other orbital facilities and satellites, whilst the Carracks began bombarding anything on the planet remotely identified as military.
Admiral Warpsite knew he had only a short time before the enemy fleet returned, and he had to destroy the spacestation before they returned.
Hundreds of turbolasers shot towards the station, striking its shields and making flare brilliantly. The spacedock had beetter shields that any starships, and at first they held. photons, phasers and the powerful assault phasers fired back, striking his ships. A Dreadnought vanished under the intense concentration of a pair of assualt phasers and multiple torpedoes. An ISD fell out of line, its engines badly hit. But the turbolasers were scoring hits too. The shield failed, and hundreds of turbolasers struck its hull. Seconds later, its reactors failed, and the station disappeared in a blinding flash.
"Sir!" shouted a weapons officer. "Enemy ships approaching."
"All ships turn to present their starboard broadsides to the enemy and lock on weapons. Port broadsides lock onto....."
He paused to look at the map of the Earth, that had been captured by the Ferengi.
"....Chicago!" he finished. "And open a channel to the alien commander!"
There was a pause, then the comms officer nodded.
"Alien fleet," said Admiral Warspite.
"You will halt your approach, lower your shields and prepare to be boarded. If you do not comply, you will be punished."
He paused for a moment, then looked at his scanner officer. The officer shook his head, the aliens had not stopped.
"Very well, fire!" ordered the Admiral.
Hundreds of turbolasers shot from the orbitting ships towards the city below. Moments later, the city of Chicago vanished in a blinding flash of superheated plasma. Every living thing within 50 miles of the city died instantly.
Warpsite nodded in satisfaction, and nodded to the comms officer.
"That was your punishment. Halt your ships, or I will destroy......."
Again he glanced at the map.
"....Los Angeles!" he finished.
There was a pause, then the image of Admiral Hayes appeared on his viewscreen. The Federation ships had stopped.
"You just killed over ten million people" shouted Hayes.
"Yes I did. How many will I kill when I fire on Los Angeles?" asked Warspite.
"If you fire again, I will destroy every ship in your fleet, even if I have to ram them to do it."
Warspite nodded in agreement. I don't doubt you could." he said. "But not before I destroy...Los Angeles....Washington...New York...Dallas...Detroit, and probably a score or so other cities. The death toll might be measured in billions, and that doesn't even count the environmental damage to the rest of the planet. If you surrender your ships now, you can save those billions."
Admiral Hayes face grimaced.
"I need some time to talk to my superiors." he finally said, trying to buy some time.
"Of course Admiral." replied Warspite. "Gunnery officer, destroy Los Angeles!"
Again, hundreds of turbolasers flashed out, and seconds later, the city of Los Angeles vanished in a huge ball of fire.
"What are you doing?" screamed Hayes. "You said I could have some time to talk to my superiors!"
"Take us much time as you like Admiral." answered Warspite coolly. "But I didn't say I would stop firing! Perhaps you can remind me, what was my next target?"
******
Admiral Hayes was horrified by the total disregard for life that the alien commmander showed, but he forced himself to think.
If he surrendered, the deaths might stop. The aliens would only have four hours before the 6th fleet arrived. Surely the death toll would be less. But on the other hand, what would they do in those four hours. His scanners already showed that the aliens were making landings near San Francisco. That meant starfleet command was under attack. If they took Starfleet command, they would have all the details on the entire Federation. Fleet deployments, starbases, planetary defences, everything. He could not let that happen.
"Very well!" he said. "But I need two minutes to inform my subordinates. Will you hold you fire for that long?"
Admiral Warspite considered.
"Gunnery, destroy Washington, then hold your fire for two minutes." he ordered.
"No!" screamed Hayes, but it was too late, and hundreds of bolts again obliterated a populated city.
"You have your two minutes Admiral. In 120 seconds, I will order New York destroyed!" said Warspite, and broke the connection.
Admiral Hayes tried not to be sick as he thought about the millions of deaths below. He couldn't let this bastard win. Who know what he could do in four hours.
"Listen to me people." he said. "We have to destroy these guys and we have to do it quick, before they can fire. What are our options?"
"How about the deflector blast like the Enterprise D used on the Borg?" suggested the helm officer.
The tactical officer shook his head.
"They would detect the power build up. We can't get through their shields fast enough before they fire. Somehow we need to destroy them outright in seconds."
"Then we're back to ramming." said the helm officer.
"It doesn't seem our best option." said Hayes. "At warp speeds they won't have time to react."
The bridge was silent.
"We can't get them all." said the chief engineer. "There are 37 of our ships and 39 of theirs."
"What if we used the Peregrines too?" asked the first officer.
"We'll have too. And we'll probably need more than one ship for the big guys."
"Sir, we only have thirty seconds left." said the science officer.
Okay, this is what we do." said Hayes, quickly punching in orders into his console. The orders were:-
SSD gets rammed by the two Sovereigns
The four ISDs get rammed by two Galaxys each
The nine (remaining) Dreadnoughts get rammed by five Defiants and two Intrepids and two Galaxys
The Twelve Lancers get rammed by eight Intrepids and 4 Prometheous.
The 14 Carracks Get rammed by 6 Prometheous and six squadrons of Peregrines.
"What about their fighters?" asked the Tactical officer.
"Earth will just have to manage them as best as they can." replied Hayes. "Open a channel back to the enemy Admiral."
*****
On the Executor, Admiral Warspite glanced at his chrono.
"Prepare to destroy New York on my signal. If the enemy attack, order general fire onto the top one hundred cities below."
"Sir," said the comms officer. "The aliens are hailing."
"On screen." he ordered.
The Image of Admiral Hayes appeared. His jaw set grimly.
"Do you have an answer for me?" said Warspite.
"Indeed I do." said Hayes, and pressed a button to give the order.
Instantly the entire Federation fleet went to warp, smashing into the Imperial fleet bare seconds later. On Earth, night was turned into day as multi-megaton explosions lit up the night sky.
*****
Admiral Warspite dragged himself back to his feet. Fires lit the bridge of his mightly ship, and distant explosions rocked the bulkhead.
"Report!" he ordered hoarsely.
The tactical officer, blood streaming from a deep cut above his eyes scanned his panels.
"We've only got partial sensors." he said. "It looks like they rammed us. The rest of the fleet is gone...destroyed, so is theirs. We have sustained heavy damage."
"How much damage? Are we operational?" demanded Warpsite.
There was a pause, then the officer looked up.
"Barely sir. We only have sixty turbolasers operational, and shields are at 5%. We have thousands of casualties, but we can move and fight."
Warpsite looked around him. This 'Federation' certainly seemed to have some guts.
But it wasn't going to do them any good, and he was going to have to punish them for their presumption.
"Tactical." ordered Warspite. "I want every city on that continent destroyed, except for 'San Fran Cisco'. Let me know when the enemy government is captured!"
