I can't remeber off hand the exact shuttle type. It was either a type 6 shuttle or a shuttlepod. If it was a type 6 (the largest or the two), it measures 6m by 4.4m by 2.7m, giving a volume of 71.28m3. The largest shuttlepod is only 4.8m * 2.4 * 1.6m, giving a volume of less than 18.5m3!

A TIE fighter measures 6m long, by 7.68m high and 5.76m wide giving a volume of 265m3. That means that a standard TIE is nearly four times more massive than a type VI shuttle and 14 times more massive than a shuttlepod. Now I grant you, that with a TIE most of that volume is empty space, but it goes to show that the size difference is pretty small. If we are talking about a TIE Defender, we are looking at 10m*10m*10m and a volume of 1000m3! TIE fighters are bigger than you think!
