Okay I have to say something here. I will agree that "warp-straffing" in open space against one or two other ship's would be a sound tactic, if it were practical. Consider both fighters are small and an X-Wing is about a quarter the size of the stated Trek fighter. now if it takes 10-15 seconds for a ship at sub-light speeds to track a small target at warp speed. Then it stands to reason that if the situation were reversed the same difficulties might occur. not to mention traveling at any warp speed severly degrades any sensor readings the ship takes. So while their is no doubt that Warp speed is an advantage over sublight, they might be "flying blind" when it comes to. Sort of the same problems submarines have with SONAR. When they are going slow and quiet (no noise) they can hear whales humping thousands of miles away! But when traveling fast and deep (noisy) thier SONAR reading accuracy is cut down drasticly.
Trek ships have the same problems at warp or with their shields up. Thies could also explain why a good deal of battles take place at sub-light speeds. Throw in ECM countermeasures and that might be enough to make targeting the X-Wing from Warp speeds very hard. So if we make this a "fair" fight and eliminate any Lightspeed drives, say that an X-Wing could defeat a Starfleet Attack fighter. Why? How? Well they both have about the same capabilites minus FTL differences, so it might be close,Fed fighters have good targeting and good firerpower, but X-Wings are capable unleashing incedible amounts of sustained firepower, not unlike Slave I in ATOC and under thoughs circumstances I think that maneuverability would play a big part especially in a dogfight.
