Subject: THe death of the american dream, and the failure of particapatory democracy
In reply to: RAY 's message, "Why the fuck do you blame America.....its the people not the country" on 23:23:45 07/11/02 Thu

TO first begin this topic conversation several questions need to be asked. What is being an American? Is it wanting what is best for humanity as a whole and using the enormous resources of this country to help other people? Or is it simply having blind faith in a system that has undeniably granted power to the rich, silenced the masses, and treated its own citezens like absoulute shit? I would like to think that the first definition holds, and if it does than i consider myself a bigger patriot than any of you going around with your goddam ultra patriotism partisan bullshit. America is a wonderful place simply because there is still hope and potential for change. When Ray talks about the values that formed this country I would like to think of a Jeffersonian democracy which is not ideal but better than this blatant mockery which we have today. I bet old Jefferson rolled over in his grave a couple times when our new piercingly intelligent fearless leader George bush was elected by a MINORITY in the country. Ray also talks about how we should blame the moral less masses because they decide the fate in this country. I say the masses are simply sheep led along by strings of lies and parental imprinting instilled by the corporate media, the true rulers of this great democracy. Not that things cannot change, but if we keep this sensless bickering of how american we are nothing will ever change. We must convince ourselves that we can work together to change this country into a model for the rest of the world. I may be labeled a communist and an idealistic hippie for saying this, but would it be wrong for some of the gluttunous wealth that the bourgeouis (spel?) have unequally earned with unequal oppurtunity to be redistributed to the people who have not had oppurtunities to make their lives better and safer and cleaner and more worth living? We have 11 million children in this country who have no form of health insurance whatsoever, which means they are essentially closed off to all health care. Guess how many people without health care are accumalated throughout most of the industralized world, 0. THis is because other countries have realized that the state has a responsibility to the people and that having freedom does not mean being able to gouge your fellow countrymen. If i am unamerican for wanting the state to conform to their social conract issued 228 years ago then so be it. But until we all agree that the state should take care of its people instead of supporting nuclear weapons, ruthless paramilitary drug cartels, future terorists (such as OSama bin LAdin), and a military already cracking under its own weight than this country will remain what it is. A fantastic failure in the experiment of social contract democracy, freedom gone wrong in a mad scramble by the money mongers to seize and hold the reigns of power.
patriotically yours,
flexgrip ultra
