Subject: Near Death Experiences, Anyone?

When I was 9 (about that) I had a ruptured appendix. My mother was a pretty trusting soul and put her confidence in a doctor who did not know what he was doing. He said I had a kidney infection and he was giving me whatever passed for antibiotics in those days. Apparently things got serious because my grandfather said: "this boy is dying. Get him to the hospital." I also remember standing in back of the hubbub watching while the stretcher was taken out of the house. I don't know if I realized at the time that I was on the stretcher. The next thing I remember clearly is being in the hospital. I was on a kind of table and an attractive woman in white (I thought she was a nurse, possibly an anesthetist, though I don't know whether there were such or maybe because it was an emergency) told me what was happening. She said that soon I would be asleep and that I was a good boy. She said: "that's a good boy." And it repeated over and over again in my head: "that's a good boy; that's a good boy...." It seemed like I heard it for hours. When the ether took effect I was aware of being surrounded by a bright, warm, yellow-white light. It seemed strongest above me. Later I was told that when I was cut open--the surgeon (my doctor?) still assumed that it was a kidney infection so made the incision so as to expose the kidneys--the "infection" spewed/sprayed like a geyser. The next I remember was awakening in the hospital with a drain tube in my stomach. It was ugly, smelly, and I hated it.
