The AKC is the recognized pure bred dog registry in the US. NKC and ConKC are organization that will register anything and everything for a price. The CKC, Canandian Kennel Club, is the equivalent for the AKC in Canada, but the ConKC, Contenental Kennel Club, is just some people trying to legitimize mutts and make money off of guillable people. None of this changes a dog. All dogs deserve loving homes but it does usually indicate the legitmacy of the breeding of the dog, or lack. Registry with ConKC or NKC is just buying a piece of paper and doesn't indicate continuity of pure breeding in the dogs. Having AKC registration papers just means that people have maintained the paperwork to provide lineage that is behind a dog so that when breeding, they know what genetic components are behind the dogs and what ones aren't. AKC registration doesn't insure quality but ConKC and NKC registration pretty much insure lack of it :)

My step-daughter bought me a shetland sheepdog puppy Jan. 2004. We didn't get papers with the puppy when we purchased him, breeder said she'd send them in mail. My daughter said she "thinks" they came but got thrown away, as they were re-modleing their house. I have e-mailed the lady of whom the pup was purchased from, tried to call the number she gave me, can't get her. Though I won't show nor will I breed my stud without the nessesary paperwork I would like to have it, in case of health concerns which may or may not come up in future. This woman's name is Angela Davidson, she said something about CKC? I would like to know how to get in touch with her. thnks

Do you mean the Canadian KC or that Conman KC? I think the rules are with the Canadian KC (the legitimate one) that they HAVE to give you papers along with the puppy or they are subject to suspension of priviledges. If it were me, I would contact the Canadia KC and let them know. If it is that fake KC that will register mutts, I wouldn't give them any money anyway. You can print out registration papers on your computer that are more legitimate :)
