I can think of a lot of questions about melanism. Are certain bloodlines more prone? What about European dogs? Has it manifested in other places or is it solely an American problem? Are repeated black to black breedings with no red influence more likely to result in melanistic tendencies than multi colored breeding backgrounds? Are the genes connected to dilutes(blue, fawn) any less likely to have melanistic characteristics? The more a problem is understood, the easier it is dealt with.
What is Flavism?
