Pure Love

A thing of beauty is a joy forever
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for me, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams and quiet breathing
(okay, so that one makes no sense, but that's what gives it that mysterious gleam!)


Music Maker

I am the music-maker,
And I am the dreamer of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers ,
And sleeping by desolate streams;
World-loser and world-forsaker
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet I am the mover and shaker,
Of the world forever, it seems.


Brutal King

With wonderful deathless ditties
I build up the world greatest cities,
And out of a fabulous story
I fasion an empire's glory:
One steed with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown:
And three with a songs new measure
Can trample a kingdom down.


Simple Cares

The little cares that fretted me,
I lost them yesterday,
Among the fields above the sea,
Among the winds at play,
Among the lowing of the herds,
The rustling of the trees,
Among the singing of the birds,
The humming of the bees.
The foolish fears of what might pass
I cast them all away
Among the clover-scented grass
Among the new-mown hay,
Among the rustling of the corn
Where drowsey poppoes sway,
Where ill thoughts die and good are born-
Out in the fields where I may.


Waterfowl (one of my favs)

Whither, 'midst falling dew,
While glow the heavens with the last steps of day,
Far, through their rosy depths, dost thou persude
Thy solitary way.

Vainly the fowler's eye
Migt mark thy distant flight to do thee wrong,
As, darkly painted on a crimson sky
Thy figure floats along.

Seek'st thou plashy brink
Of weedy lake, or marge of river wide,
Or where the rocking billows rise and sink
On the chafed ocean side

There is a power whose care
Teaches thy way along that pathless coast,-
The desert and illimitable air,-
Lone wandering, but not lost.

All day thy wings have fanned,
At that far height, the cold, thin atmosphere
Yet stoop not, weary, to the welcome land,
Though the dark night is near.

And soon that toil shall end;
Soon shalt thou find a summer home, and rest,
And scream among thy fellows; reeds shall bend,
Soon, o'er thou sheltered nest.

Thou'rt gone, the abyss of heaven
Hath swallowed up thy form; yet, on my hear
Deeplyhath sunk the lesson thou hast given,
And shall not soon depart.

He who, from zone to zone,
Guides through the boundless sky thy certain flight,
In the long way that I must tred alone,
Will lead my steps alright.
