... it is with a heavy feeling upon her that she re-enters the hill tops, casting a dutiful glance through the driving rain that has thrashed the herd. They must attempt now to cross the channel... one by one, until they all arrive in the woodlands of Chincoteague, the saffest place out of both islands. But tonight there is few things that can be done to keep the herd safe for the remaining period of time. Tomorrow a call would be released, Xurai must lead the herd toward the Channel as second matriach, as the other mares file out. Then would go their stallion, and finally herself. A sigh wafts from her wind pipe, she would go last. And they must all risk their lives to save themselves. Chayton had not thought.
