Subject: Ghost Story

sleeping on the roll-away bed was a little lumpy at times, but i was only 6 and liked to stay in the basement where it was cool. our dog lay in the other room, and as i had always been a fan of universal creature films--the thought of being afraid of the dark never came to my mind--but like i said, i was only 6 and had yet to develope much of a mind.

the night crept on, and i fell victim to it's enchantments. sleep blanketed me as a shroud does it's corpse.

i woke suddenly--and for the first time noticed it was dark and quiet. a cold invisible mass (that's only how i could describe it) covered my face. i could not move. i was paralyzed. with the quick suddeness of a mantis consuming her mate, a cold hand grasped my ankle and would not let go.

i could not scream, i could not move--yet the grasp of that frozen, transparent claw choked my ankle.

as quickly as it came, it left.

the next morning we got a call that our neighbor, an elderly man, died.
