I will try and keep this short. I’d like to voice my udder disappointment in the changes to the Tuesday night men’s softball league. The new changes/rules have made what was a great league to play in, a ridiculous spectacle of Hot Shots and Show Offs or as I have termed it, “a Mickey Mouse League.”
To start, the removal of a pitching mound is simply absurd and the fact that the pitcher can fake his pitches two, three, four…ten times is nothing but insane. What if you saw Randy Johnson fake two or three pitches before releasing the ball? You would say that all the dignity of baseball was lost and you would never watch another game…well you’d say that if you were a true baseball fan. Other changes like the batter being able to run in front of the plate to hit a pitch just adds to the fun house atmosphere, which in my opinion is not fun at all.
I’m not sure what possessed the leaders of this league to make these changes, but I am begging them to make this league what it once was…a great place to play softball. If not, the exodus will begin and in these days there are fewer and fewer teams/leagues and I don’t think Carroll County can afford more teams going to surrounding counties. Or maybe like many other things today, ego has gotten the better of them.
