I have a Gateway 5200 Pentium II processor on a 40 gig hardrive. I was having problems with the system freezing up, I initially thought it was the memory but after running memory tests, and removing sticks of RAM it did not resolve the issue, I removed my hard drive from an older Gateway Essential PC which had a celeron processor and placed it into this one. When the same issues began with the new system, I fugured it must be the hard drive. I ran a thorough Scandisk which turned up no problems, used my Norton Antivirus to check, no problems there, and used Western Digitals software which came with the hard drive and this detected no problems.
I then blamed the software, I formatted the disk and reinstalled first Win98 then the upgrade to Me. At my first attempt to load the OS the system stated it could not install due to a problem in the hardrive, then apon my second attempt, smooth sailing. Now my system may run for hours without a problem or a 1/2 an hour then freeze. Any suggestions to rectfy the problem.
