Subject: GM exhibit

I remember GM had a safety film where they'd taken an old (1927 ?) Chevrolet and driven it at speed (driverless)over a ramp on one side only.

Of course they then cut to the totally demolished result.

The film's announcer then says something like, "Of course today's cars are much safer" and we watch from behind as a series 1 Corvair, Nader's nemesis, is driven about 18 mph over a similar ramp (again, one side of the car only). The helmeted driver has no difficulty setting the airborne side of the car down.

Unconvincing comparison somehow. But the real treat was the power-steering display. You stood on a little scale-like platform. First you had to lift your weight by turning a non-power-assisted (1970s Pontiac) steering wheel. Then if you pushed a button a pump would come on and the wheel would be magically power-assisted.
