The South Bay Folk Ensemble...was started around 1996 or thereabouts. It is an unorganized, loose band of people who like to make homemade insturments, don't like daytime, and would rather play in drainage pipes, cul de sags, abandoned buildings rather than club spaces or anything like that. Our first recordings were done late at night in some drainage pipes (not sewers) in the C.I.A. and Mafia infested 'burg of Palos Verdes, Ca. There are cliffs, gullies, and little canyons there so at night it is a good place to explore and sneak around but don't be seen with garbage bags...otherwise residents will call the police. aother site was the old Van De Kamp building around atwater Villiage near Frogtown by the L.A. river. We would break inside the building and play and record in its basement. I am always looking for new places to record and perform in and the South Bay Folk Ensemble is open tyo anyone who likes to play odd insturments in strange locations. It is really more for self amusing personalities than it is for rockstar types who rely upon a large audience to feel appreciated. Mosquitos, skunks, cockroaches, feral cats, and frogs need music too. For cassette tapes ($7) of this and more information you can contact me at my email.
