I am Moonbeam. You haven't heard of me before, I'm sure. I have lived in Redwall Abbey all my life, and my life is nothing interesting at all. My life book is dusty, and the pages yellowed with age.My father died in a shipping accident, my mother passed away her seasons here in Redwall. My one good trait is that my great, great, great, great, great grandfather is Martin the Warrior! To think that I, a clumsy shy mousemaid, a relation to Martin the Warrior himself! I have only to look at him in the tapestry hanging in the Great Hall and I feel my blood rise hot with a warrior's pride. But I cannot even hold a sword. As my father chose to tell me all the time,"You do not deserve the blood of such a noble warrior coursing through you ungrateful body. You, who would not hurt a living being. Either by choice, or by merely not having the skills to attack. You are a disgrace to this family!" It is cruel for me to say so-and perhaps evil as well-but I am glad that my father died. He did not treat me or my mother well.Even so, my mother loved him, and would never stop wearing her black widow's dress. She died and was buried in that dress. I miss my mother dearly. She is gone, and so is the family that I know of. But there is still Redwall Abbey, and while it stands, I will defend it with my life.
