I am a sea ottermaid, born and bred on the cold seas of the north. I don't know who my parents were. One day Sargeant Fleetrunner of the Long Patrol found me, a tiny ottermaid, lying in the sand. He, feeling sorry for me, brought me home to take care of. I was adopted by the Lady Melanius, who treated me like her own daughter.
Whist I lived happily with my hare friends at Salamandastron, I learned to be a skillful warrior along with the rest of the young hares, learning tricks and fighting techniques of all sorts. When the time came for me to have my own weapon, Lady Melanius presented me with a special present, a wonderous double-hilted war sabre specially made by her for me.
The time came for me to leave my home of Salamandastron at last, and Lady Melanius and most of the hares (now full-grown) wept and wished me good luck. However, there was one haremaid who refused to part from my side; Larkspur Caraway, the daughter of Sargeant Fleetrunner and my best friend. We left the mountain together and had many strange and wonderful adventures since then.
