As we watche the badger lord approach the abbey, Mother Mellus ran out to greet him. as they stood talking on the path, I noticed him hand her a small bundle. Soon afterwards, he turned and walked away. As Mellus returned to the abby, she was cradling the bundle as if it were a small infant. As soon as she reached me, I asked her what the Badger Lord had handed her. He wordlessly showed me. Inside the bundle was the smallest ferret I had ever seen. "he was found soon after a great battle at salamandastron. Lord (smudged out) had a vision of a young ferret that would 1 day be a great protector of Redwall. soon after the vision, the hares found him lying on a small tuft of grass," Mellus said. Aparently the badger lord decided that Mickle would be the ferret of his vision, so he brought mickle here.

after just 3 seasons of being here, Mickle Swiftstrike has become an integral part of Redwall. He has helped find numerous lost dibbuns. he has also began learning medicine from all of our infirmary workers. Oh, and Mickle has discovered a natural ability with archery. the badger lord has recently returned to check on Mickle, and he has asked to have Mickle brought to salamandastron as soon as Mickle is old enough. It seems that he has a surprise for mickle, although just being invited to salamandastron is a great honor for him, for ferrets are rarely even allowed to look upon salamandastron and survive.
