Hi, I'm Arzah Songriver, and this is my story. Whe I was younger I lived with my otter tribe on the north coast. My father was the cheiftan, Skipper Bladerudder Killstream. My mother was called Sapphire Songriver. One day, my father and all the other otter warriors went after a searat galley that had taken slaves from our tribe a few seasons back. It had been sighted near the coast, so they took our ship, The Seaflower, and gave chase, hoping to free the slaves. Left behind were the old ones, the nursing mothers, the babes, and an injured male otter named Redd. One day, six days after my father had left, we were attacked by a tribe of wandering foxes. They killed the old ones and mothers, and left Redd for dead. Some of the babes were killed, and others were taken to be slaves. They didn't see me. After the foxes had gone, I crawled out from where I had been hiding behind a large rock. I cried and cried, but then I noticed Redd move. I was old enough to have sense, and my mother had taught me some basic healing skills. I bound Redd's wounds, and fed him. A few days later he was recovering. As soon as he was on his feet he decided we had to leave. He believed the coasts had become unsafe, so he took me and we set off inland. A few days later, we were completely lost in Mossflower woods. One evening, I was sitting in our camp while Redd gathered food. The next morning, he hadn't come back, so I did what he had told me to do if he was ever late back. I packed up our belongings and set off. A little while later I found Redd's body, lying on the path, surrounded by the bodies of vermin. I laid him by an old oak tree, and covered him with flowers. I rested there a while, then continued on my journey. A few days later, I became dizzy, and overcome with tiredness. I knew enough about healing to know that I had fever, but there was nothing I could do. I collapsed in a ditch by the roadside, unconcious. When I awoke, I was lying in a bed in a bright room. My head was aching and I was very hungry, but I seemed to be okay. I sat up as a mouse in a green habit came over to me. She told me that her name was Sister Arabelle, and that I was in the infirmary of Redwall Abbey. A foraging party had discovered me by the roadside, and had brought me back to the Abbey. They had been giving me medicine to get rid of the fever, and I had been lying unconcious for two days. Sister Arabelle said that I would be fine again in a few days, and then I could be shown around the Abbey. I remebered when I was very young, my mother used to tell me stories of Redwall Abbey, where she had grown up. It was like a fairytale land of peace and harmony, filled with kind and friendly creatures. I told Sister Arabelle my story, and she told me that she had known my mother. I met Abbess Melody, and Bramblerose, the badger mother. On the day I got out of bed, I was told that there was to be a Nameday feast that evening. I was shown around the Abbey, and I met lots of creatures my own age, and I made lots of new friends. Abbess Melody said I could live at Redwall for ever and ever. That evening, the feast was wonderful. I had never tasted such good food, nor seen such happy creatures. After the feast, I went with the dibbuns, and in the warm evening sunlight we paddled in the Abbey pond. I had found my new home.........
