The ginger fox known as Matthias, knows very little about his past. As far back as he can remember he survived on his own. Someone must've taken care of him as he had a Bow n Arrows with his name carved on the case. He hunted for himself and collected berries and although he hated meat, ate it anyway. When he was older he found an almost silver-grey bundle, huddled on a rock. He remarked that it was a young she-mouse. He could bear to kill adult animals but never a wee babe. He picked her up and began to lick the moisture off her fur to warm her up. "Whata poor babe," he said between licks. "Wells you 'ought to 'ave a name," he looked over her carefully and noticing her light lavender eyes named he Lavender Moss.

He hunted for her as well as himself with much difficulty. When she was old enough he found a good peice of wood and carved her a rough sword. "Laven'er," he said to her one day, "I'm goin' ow' fo a bit."

"Wet me come" she pleaded.

"Aw wight," He secretly decided to head out for a place called Redwall Abbey. He didn't know where it was but he would find it to make a better life for him and Lavender Moss. He headed of with the little mouse close on his heels. He felt a pebble hit the back of his head.

"Wight on tagwet," he heard a voice call. He looked around and seeing no one peered up in the trees. He saw a chestnut colored squirrel staring down at him. "Hewwo," said his attacker looking scared.

"O come on. I won huwt you." replied Matthias.

"You won?" He looked up and down the fox. "I guess not. O bys the way, I's be Lil Chugg. I tink tha' my bwover was named Chugg." He slide down the tree and plopped down beside Matthias.

"You wanna come wit us to Wedwall Abbey?" asked Matthias looking over the little squirrel. Lil Chugg agreed and they journeyed on finally reaching their destination. They met up with a few dibbuns from DAB and the joined ready to leave their hard lives and make mischief.
