Young seasons:
Snowflake Silveraim and her sister Firetail Silveraim were born to Snowtail and Fireflake Silveraim who lived in a VERY uneventful village south of the ocean. This village was called Flickertick because all that came there were ticks, and you just flick them away. This family was very peaceful, neither Snowtail nor Fireflake had been in any battles, because they never had to! This made Flickertick an ideal place to give birth, until Cetin arrived.
Cetin was a weasel, whose green eyes instantly bore into your mind (you can’t hide anything from him). His brown fur completed the cunning and handsome look. Cetin’s horde was monstrous, there were 5 score rats, 5 score stoats, 9 score foxes, and 15 score weasels! 680 vermin! If that wasn’t enough, he had reinforcements that totaled1,000 vermin! Add all that up and get 1,680 evil vermin to fight (if you were foolish enough).
Cetin arrived shortly before the Silveraim twins were born, enslaving the 100 mice, squirrels, hedgehogs and hares. Among these slaves was the Silveraim family. Cetin normally wouldn’t have females working, but since Snowtail was about to give birth, he knew these children could threaten his reign. Cetin immediately demolished the idea. How could two weak fools give birth to 2 strong warriors? But just to be safe he worked Snowtail to give the offspring a slight chance of living, let alone being warriors.
After five weeks of working, hard working, cutting wood, making food, polishing armor and weapons, the work was endless. Only at midnight could these slaves sleep, only to be awakened a dawn. That night though, everything changed. Snowtail and Fireflake gave birth to one, two mice. Fireflake suggested giving both of their names to their children, Snowtail agreed. Thus, Snowflake and Firetail Silveraim were born.
The next day following the birth of the Mischievous Twins, a captain in Cetin’s army alarmed Cetin of this birth. Cetin was boiling over in anger, why did they give birth? Five weeks, FIVE WEEKS of non-stop working, and they still gave birth? Oh no, they will just work harder, maybe starve them a bit to show I’m not going to have two pipsqueaks in my slave line, Cetin thought.
Snowflake sat down watching her parents chop wood. She and her twin thought of this as a game. However, Snowtail and Fireflake taught them that this was no game. Still, Snowflake and Firetail enjoyed watching everyone. But something in their heart tightened when Cetin marched by. Snowtail and Fireflake had given birth to two warriors! What luck!
After the night of work, Fireflake and Snowtail found trouble. If they stayed and worked, Cetin may very well kill the twins. But they couldn’t possibly leave, Cetin probably would send trackers and they’d all be killed or tortured. Plus the Silveraim family had lived in Flickertick (now known as Cetin Town) for countless generations. Before Snowtail and Fireflake could decide, it was dawn, time to work again.
Cetin realized that the two Silveraim children looked strong. He didn’t want to work them, possibly they aren’t strong enough, but what if they are? He decided to not work them..... could this have been a fatal mistake? Little did Cetin know that one of his hordes, a fox called Zakken, was really a spy.
Zakken provided the bit of news to Fireflake and Snowtail that Cetin would not work the twins. This was a lucky break for the Silveraim family, because if the twins would work, Cetin would discover that they are warriors. The family decided that this place was no longer ideal for raising Snowflake and Firetail. They would escape -- tonight. Snowtail grabbed their belongings, but realized something. They were still chained. Fireflake provided the answer. All they needed was Zakken, he had the keys. Zakken unlocked the manacles. The escape was on. “Good luck.” He muttered.
The escape was difficult; as Cetin had guards everywhere. Also the Silveraim family had to keep quiet, otherwise they would alert the captains. Snowflake giggled, this was fun! The whole family held their breath. The guard snorted and turned over. Phew, they lucked out. Firetail ran to a river and gestured (she can’t speak yet) to her family. There was a group of shrews called GUOSSSIM (Guerilla Union of South Stream Shrews In Mossflower) paddling on a boat! This was a fantastic chance to escape for good!!!!! Fireflake explained the desperate situation quickly. The Log-a-Log listened and agreed to take them in tow to Redwall Abbey.
Over the next days Firetail and Snowflake learned some words (their first was Log-a-Log) such as “row” “paddle” and other boat terms. They even learned how to paddle! Log-a-Log was pleased to see the twins enjoyed the river, especially the scenery. In the short period that the family and GUOSSSIM were together, they formed a special bond together called friendship. Fireflake asked why the GUOSSSIM were this far south. Log-a-Log said that they were on their way to Flickertick for food. Snowtail explained that it is no longer Flickertick and that it now is a place of evil. A shrew told them when the twins were older, they would take Snowflake and Firetail to fight. The twins’ eyes lit up at the mention of fight.

Cetin heard five sharp blasts on a bone whistle. One meant help, 2 meant we found new slaves, 3 meant hi, 4 meant alarm and 5 meant escape. Ok, an escape, no big deal. AN ESCAPE?! Cetin jumped out and looked. It was that Silveraim family! He shouted for his captains. “GO TRACK THEM DOWN!” Cetin yelled.
Log-a-Log saw the horde coming and alerted the family. He told them to follow him to a hiding spot. It was the inside of a hollow log. Fireflake laughed because Log-a-Log’s name had ‘log’ in it. The GUOSSSIM and the Silveraim family waited until the danger passed. This was a breath-taking process because the tracker that Cetin sent had a keen sense of smell and hearing. Thankfully he and his trackers passed. The hiding was over.
