This is just one of the projects
--------------------------------------------------------
Maprik people to benefit from K6.8m water project
By ISAAC NICHOLAS
THE people of Maprik will benefit from a new water supply project.
The water supply project totalling K6.8 million, was jointly funded by Maprik MP Gabriel Kapris, who put up K310,000 and the National Government with K3 million as counterpart funding with the European Union taking up the balance of K3.1 million.
The Maprik water supply project is also unique in the sense that it was designed by two female engineers from the PNG Water board.
The contract was awarded to China Jiangsu International, whose chairman Kong Xin Ning, and PNG Water Board managing director Patrick Amini, signed the documents last Friday.
The work will take 18 months to complete.
The first phase consists of the construction of a water reservoir and water treatment plant.
The second phase is for the intake works and laying of pipes.
The company would involve local labour from Maprik for the project.
Mr Kapris said it took him more than six years to get the project off the ground with a K10,000 pre-feasibility study and a K300,000 full scale engineering study.
He thanked the PNG Water Board for their tireless efforts in putting together a submission to help convince the Government for funding.
Mr Kapris said he had worked six years and had promised the people during the elections that they would get a water supply project within his term in office as Maprik MP.
Its a dream to get this project going, he said.
Mr Kapris, who is also Commerce and Industry Minister, said the water project was part of his plans to get basic services to districts and then create growth centres within each district.
He said nine pilot growth centres were planned for Abau, Central province; Tol in Pomio, East New Britain; Namatanai,New Ireland province; Aitape, Sandaun province; and Maprik.

If you did not know, the difference the practical application and the utilisation of engineering design and praxctise. Gabriel has practised enineering for more than a decade than Don. Don is still a small boy in engineering?????

The report says "the people of Maprik will benefit" from this project.....it's not even off the ground yet and we don't even know whether the project will be completed in time and on budget. With Chinese contractors, I doubt the quality of materials and the work itself.

I just don't know why some of us are not content with what we have and give our elected leaders a chance. Everybody deserves a fair go and besides, Don is a policy maker and not an implementer....give these leaders a break guys.

Regards

It is 1 year after elections...stop this forever talking policy. Elected MPs have effectively 3 years.

You can wait until policies will be implemented or not after 2012 while the Maprik people have ALREADY got some good news!!!

Come on, what's Sir Somare's right hand son Don Polye doing down there? Still making policies?????? Come on, prioritise your actions and look at the need of the Kandep people rather than feeding your own tummy.

Lets not talk about policies that can not be implemented forever, engineers call that, DFU?

Suggest our MP's should take these comparisons as challenges and do something? What do you do when your 5 year old boy points to another boys toy and request for one, I'm sure, as a concerned father, you would take ownership of the request and take it as a challenge, not only to buy him one BUT a much better toy for him because you love him...

All we are saying is other MP's including Kapris & Anderson are doing something while our MP's are forever dreaming about policies???? Be real policy makers...To me, better policy makers are better implementers themselves?

So come on Don Pomb Polye,

What are you waiting for? You are already the next of kin to Sir Michael Somare and bata Arthur is even jealous about it.

Use that power to do something worthy. Stop dreaming too much about ladies, if people see you as a National Leader, tell the nation that you can do good for Kandpe as well as for the nation.

Don't waste time here mate, coz I'll strip you off your portfolio as the KAndep Open MP very shortly.

Kaime,

I am so sick and tired of this Polye. He is doing absolutely nothing for the Kandep people. He is becoming so cunning and the nature does not like him as well. Though he is my cousine,` but all I need is at least a change in Kandep.

That's the frustrating part. Therfore, I will still put him down. He's definately meeting me in Kandep very shortly for the By Elections.

Very True Kandep.

Ace,

Kaim you seem to be very optimistic about the pending court decision and the subsequent by-election if Don's win is declared null and void. That's good but you just can't be too sure of that bud. The courts are independent and their decisions are unpredictable....it could turn out in Don's favor. I'm not a Don fan or nor do I have any interest in your district's politics but all I want to tell you is to be prepared for the worst as evidence suggests that situations like this can happen. Eg, think about justice Mongish's decision on Peter Ipatas' leadership tribunal. There was overwhelming evidence for Ipatas to be dismissed as he was found guilty of 16 charges and we all thought he was going out the back door. Even the governor himself admitted during one of his parties at Bluff Inn during the weeks leading up to the decision that if he is dismissed, he is still a young man and he can venture into other leadership roles. However on the decision day, he came out of the front door with a big smile on his face. He had the last laugh......and for his opponents, I don't know what became of them.

Blessings

For those who do not know Polye well enough, he is a true National Leader of PNG including Kandep.

With a leader of Don Polye's calibre and capability, he can not get bogged down with Kandep from the start when all is not well with PNG. First, he had to work around the clock to save PNG from near collapse and bankruptcy, which he has successfully stated when he first got elected in 2002 if you realise. Kandep is like a branch of a whole tree that can die with all other branches and leaves if the tree itself is not saved from dying due to lack of nutrition and water.
Therefore handful of our visionary leaders including Polye will continue to work round the clock to macro manage to ensure PNG is on track with full economic recoveries and social woes first. You will start to see changes in your local districts when the country is put through a real change and it takes only one or few to do that which Don Polye is no doubt one of them.
It only indicates how naive and shallow some of our people are in their thinking and can not appreciate what someone is doing for them and their future generations.
That is not to say Kandep must be neglected which Don has already put in some impact projects like upgrading Kandep Laigam Road, built three major impact bridges, airstrip operating again, Kandep District Centre under construction, Treasury Offices and 12 staff houses built in his first term to name afew. His next projects are almost announced is the upgrading Mendi Kandep road, Kandep Magarima Road which already started and Hides Gas Power to light up Kandep.
Please be realistic and fair instead of portraying negative all the time of Polye.

Observer, people are leaders in their own right but I do think Don still has a leadership to offer to enga and PNG. I would suggest the complaint (AM) and Don come to an agreement rather than to prolong this court battle, as people of Kandep and enga are missing out on so many development aspects.

True leaders do talk peace than being like some mere machines allowing others to decide on their behalf. Courts should be reserved for criminals and not for leaders to muddle indecisively at the expenses of the people.

Engans, if we want to succeed, we the educated should learn to work together and support one another. Despite how educated we are, we would be stupidly dumb when we through our lustful desires think that we would perform better than capable leaders.

Finally Observer, your scenario for tree trunk and branches does not work here, misleading scenario and does not fit. MPs do have a bigger responsibility to their electorates first, and that is where the future of MPs hangs, 'bound-in' for another term or 'bound-out'.

Thanks guys,

But to be the best leader, you must do what you can do down from the base and then you make your way up.

For what you do within the district levels will determine how good you can do up at the national levels. I see no reason why leaders always like climbing right to the top. Are you the only most educated bugger among all? Most experienced?? The richest MP??

But if they are fit, they can handle both very well. And none is happening from either ends yet.

KON MAN Nabaut!!! Tok long wokim policy yet. But can you make policies from the top but the same time do something good in Kandep? Like the road/hausik/school upgrades??????

He alone knew the very reason to win through evil ways, the reason is there, to sit and talk from the top... policiy, policy, policy. Policies that rots away!!!!

Frustrated Kandepian

Ace.

Fellows...the notion that a leader should start doing from the electorate level is right, however the same must be done from the top down. There must be a balance between the two and that is what Don Polye is doing. There are not many committed leaders to do that right now at the national level. And his critics must learn to be appreciative of this. If he has not done enough in his first term, he will do it this time round and will continue to do so until he retires from politics in his old age. Then our children shall carry on from there.
I do not agree with the impression that Polye has done virtually nothing which is mere politics. I agree with what Observer mentioned Polye has done so far.

I must continue to remind people like ACE and others that Truth will always prevail and lies only shortlive.
