Subject: Two Southern Highlanders Murdered in Mt Hagen Author: Ace (Always Take Extra Precautions) [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: Wed, Sep 10 2008, 09:46:31am As you might have read in the two dailies last month that two Southern Highlanders were murdered cool blooded here in the third city called Mt Hagen by rascals for unknown reasons that I am not aware of. One a second year HTTC student boy from Ialibu and Karanda(Kagua) and other young man from Wakwak village of Mendi. I live and work near where the killings occurred but it all happened in night. I would not know the reasons behind for such an unknown killings, taking defence less two lives with out any mercy by people who committed this crime is only known to our good lord why this has happened to such young men who had much to offer for the family and the country as a whole. I really felt sorry for the young man from Ialibu & Kagua who I know him personally who was murdered at the Anglican church, warakum and Taragau road junction on 23rd of August last moth. How he died and why he was murdered in such a way was surprised to his family and his school mates at HTTC. So far I have seen and witnessed with my own eyes, how Southern Highlanders,Engan’s and people of other provinces have been treated by locals here and how some have been killed on day light by locals, many of the Southern Highlanders & Enga’n girls and woman have been picked up from the bus stop and have been pack raped, bilums and string bags have been searched and robbed in the day light, thousands of money have been robbed but have not been reported to concern authorities. I would like to remind my fellow Southern Highlanders that Mt Hagen City is no longer safe for you to travel, if you plan to travel in please arrange your trusted family members to meet you or pick you up, make sure there must be four to five boys from your own family or clan to meet you. Once you are picked up or met, go home straight away. There is a well organized street gains here who can shoot you on the spot or knife you to death when you resist, when you are caught and if they search you let them get what ever they want. It is a very serious trend and no one here or even the local leaders, police, politicians and Hagen town residents seem not to speak out on this issue, in the beginning of this year four Engan’s have been murdered and properties worth thousands of kina have been destroyed and innocent lives been lost through none of either South or Enga’s fault. One thing I have observed here about the locals are, there is no respect for outsiders working and living here, they think they own this city and can do anything they want. I have seen a poor resident here from one of the costal provinces have been removed from his house by force from a near by local men with out any respective, he was chased away by two different clans here one claiming the owner of the house and the other clan locked the out side gate mending every now and then. There is so much hold ups every day, break and enter, car hold ups and pick pockets are daily occurrence and street gains controlling this city is a wake up call for every person living here in this city. Next time you plan to travel this way to your homes, please your safety is very important so take precautions, extra care and travel safe home. With this precautionary message you are saving innocent engans. Pass the message on, this is important safety message!! Indeed it sounds very scary. Fellow engans until there is infrastructure linkage between sepik and mendi-kikori, there is no need to go to hagen. that hagen town is only sitting on the money from the mines in enga and SHP. One day, hageners will run wild if that atitude does not stop. if our MPs work together to link up the 2 coastlines on either side, the development opportunities would be ours. I have a suggestion on how a road linking sepik would be done but I will have to talk to the Governor personally one of these days. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]
