Agiru done more in past 12 months
Hami Yawari did not show any leadership during his term in office and he is not welcomed in Mendi.
The town has not seen any changes in terms of real development since Mr Yawari’s five years in office as governor.
When he was in office, the only developments, or rather announcements, were in Ialibu and Nipa.
He should realise that Southern Highlands is made up of 600,000 people from the Eastern, Central and Western end, and not just the two places.
As a leader and mayor of Mendi, I urge Mr Yawari to cease talking about Mendi because we have suffered enough under him.
The election of Anderson Agiru was an intervention by God, who heard the cries of the silent majority of the God-fearing and resource-rich people.
This letter is to dispel any misinformation that is being promoted by Mr Yawari.
Southern Highlands, especially Mendi, has seen more development in the last 12 months compared to the five years when MrYawari was in office.
Let me list a few developments now taking shape under Mr Agiru’s 12-month tenure.
* K14 million Mendi Valley Plaza now under construction;
* K700,000 Mendi airport upgrade;
* K1 million sealing work on Mendi-Kiburu road;
* K250,000 to revive Mendi school of nursing which was closed under Mr Yawari’s regime;
* K150,000 for Mendi High School redevelopment programme;
* K150,000 Teta ward youth centre;
* K5 million for Sumia-Pinz-Munihu road;
* K350,000 for completion of Yaria health centre;
* K300,000 Tingirip sub-health centre nearing completion;
* K3 million for Mendi-Moniel district administration with K1 million down payment already made to the contractor;
* K350,000 Handa health centre construction;
* K300,000 for Imbonggu High School;
* K550,000 paid to Treid Pacific for two double-storey classrooms at Wakwak Top-up Primary School;
* K200,000 paid to women and youth groups for cleaning Mendi;
* K1 million released to Works Department for Mendi-Angure road maintenance;
* K200,000 to Pinz community for two double classrooms;
* K3.5 million to Mendi hospital maintenance using tax credit from resource projects;
* K550,000 for two double-storey classrooms at Kip Top-up Primary School; and
* K2 million for the rehabilitation of Muruk Lodge.
There is now light at the end of a dark tunnel.
Thank you, Mr Agiru. We are with you.

Stanley Keno
Mayor Mendi town
