Kikala donated K1,000 to Kaiwi
I WOULD like to respond to an inaccurate allegation raised by “Publo” (Nov 29) against the duly elected MP for Lagaip-Porgera Philip Kikala.
The writer has apparently relied on erroneous reporting that the MP had donated K5,000 to Donald Kaiwi’s fundraiser for the world bodybuilding championships.
The actual fact is Kikala donated K1,000 from his own wallet and the K5,000 contribution came from another notable Engan MP.
Kikala, through his district development plan for the electorate, has already prioritised HIV/AIDS by establishing a monitoring unit that will be responsible for setting up testing kits and equipment to be entrusted to the care of the Niungu and Paiam hospitals in Lagaip and Porgera districts respectively.
The HIV/AIDS monitoring unit will also be responsible for providing services such as awareness, counselling, and ongoing facilitation of the health centres within the electorate.
The issue of tribal fighting has also been catered for in the Lagaip-Porgera district development plan by the facilitation of police.
The MP has been vocal against tribal fighting before and after the recent election.
Past experiences on awareness drives involving university students have shown a wanton lack of accountability and abuse of public funds.
Hence, what impact will the students have on combating the chronic issue of HIV/AIDS this time?
I would recommend the writer to investigate the facts rather than to cause undue discredit to duly elected parliamentary representatives of Enga.

Stephen P. Kikala
On behalf of the
Office of the
Lagaip-Porgera MP
