Good point and informative sources indeed! I wanted to make a contribution when I first read about the poor boy and his father's plight in the newspaper on Thursday. But I was a little apprehensive because my doubts for the authenticity of this report. Considering the recent lack of professionalism and accuracy of media reports, I would rather communicate directly with hospitals and doctors to find out. [Thanks Freddie for that effort!] Calling the publicized phone number and making a mere deposit in the publicized bank account could be deceptive.

Please help save my son
A CHIMBU man sold all his land and coffee plantation in a bid to raise money for his sick child.
Gepa Gama, who is from Neragama village in the Kerowagi district of Chimbu Province, has an 11-year-old son Kaman who is suffering from brain tumor.
Mr Gama took him to hospitals in Mount Hagen, Goroka, Lae and is now at the Port Moresby Hospital to seek medical attention.
He sold his land and coffee plantation back home four months ago for medical funds.
He is calling for assistance for further medical attention for his son, who is suffering from a brain tumour at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
He started taking his son for the treatments in 1995 after Kaman became ill.
Young Kaman was in grade two at the time of his diagnosis.
Mr Gama believed his son would get well as he thought it was only malaria but the symptoms did not disappear after taking him to the health clinics and hospitals in his province. He took him to the Mount Hagen, Goroka and Lae hospitals for treatment but that did not help.
After seeing his son’s condition deteriorate he was told to come to Port Moresby for further attention.
By then he had exhausted all the funds he had but he sold off his coffee gardens, a piece of his land, pigs and other belongings just to take his son to the Pacific International Hospital in Port Moresby, only to find out that his son has a brain tumour.
As a simple villager with very little formal education Mr Gama didn’t know what the brain tumour was but later he learnt that it was a serious disease.
Mr Gama said as a young father he was very worried and wouldn’t let his son die but needed a specialist or have to take him to hospitals in other countries for immediate medical attention.
He said as a typical villager from the remote part of the country he had used up what he had for the further treatment and his son was now admitted at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
“I don’t know as I am confused with no money left, no friends in the city to turn to for help and if my son happens to die, there won’t be any one to help or take the body home,” he said.
He said to come to the Port Moresby Hospital was his last resort and after that he didn’t know where to go and who to turn to for help.
“As a humble citizen of Papua New Guinea I am appealing to the fellow Papua New Guineans to help me to save my son’s life,” Mr Gama said.
Mr Gama said his son had under- gone the first operation and the second one is likely to happen but this would depend largely on his financial status.
