In reply to: Some USK??? 's message, "Polye has proved himself - PC 4th June 07" on Tue, Jun 05 2007, 03:19:36pm

Don Polye’s Mission Complete

I feel compelled to write in reply to comments made by a “USK” of Lae Unitech on the 4th June 2007 in the Post Courier titled “Polye has proved himself”.
The issue USK raised with respect to Don Polye’s nomination is a true and fair incident raised by a couple of candidates contesting for the Kandep Open seat. I was in Kandep the whole time from the issue of writs on the 4th of May to the close of writs on the 10th of May and Don Polye was not in Kandep during these dates to nominate himself. However, Don Polye may have nominated himself before the District Returning Officer elsewhere and this is a matter for the court to clear whether an Open Candidate has the right to nominate elsewhere or in his district. I therefore, remind USK that this is the issue the Kandep Candidates are pursuing to get clarification from the Electoral Commission or possible the courts.
The other comment USK made about Don Polye proving to the people of his electorate is ridiculous and an insult to the Kandep people. The capacity of Don Polye being in the ruling party (NA) for 5 years, the Deputy Leader of the ruling party for 5 years, a Minister for 5 years, the Kandep MP for 5 years and the Deputy Prime Minister for a year, clearly shows all the credentials to bring some tangible benefit to the people of Kandep who duly elected him to the office.
To the shame, the Kandep people have suffered and the services once merely maintained by the former MP – Jimson Sauk has deteriorated to merely nothing. Fore instance, the road from Laiagam to Kandep has been the worse and the poor people have to push PMV Dyna trucks up the hill for more than half the distance, and to get to their destination, people have to catch PMV at 8pm or 9pm the pervious night to arrive at 8am or 9am at Wabag town the next morning.
The Kandep District Health Centre has come to a close and doesn’t even have the basic drugs and or an Ambulance. The District Health Centre has been treated with disrespect when outside small clinical outlets such as West Kambi, Longap and Titip got an Ambulance each from Don Polye but driven around by his supporters and not the legitimate clinic staff.
The High Altitude Wheat Research Centre once funded by the former MP – Jimson Sauk and China in Murip village have been ignored by Don Polye by not providing the counter-part funding to progress any further.
Furthermore, the Kandep people have been flooded with cash handouts from Don Polye for guinea pig projects on black and white but merely nothing in reality in the villages targeted at his supporters and political cronies.
The once flourishing Kandep High School has been ignored by Don Polye because most of the staff are not his political cronies and this has resulted in buildings deteriorating to sheds and health scares has already caused a young student’s life after the sewerage system has been blocked. It was also revealed that a Dyna truck was purchased by Don Polye for the Kandep High School but later given to a political supporter and is driven around as PMV.
The list goes on and the Kandep people this time will not be shaken by any political gimmick given by Don Polye and they have bowed to weed him out of the race through the elections or even nullify Don Polye through the dispute of his nomination issue.
