Cool Guy1

Your comments are very true indeed. Do any of you have any telephone connections with the 4 Enga MP elects from NA party. Please..please can someone tell them to demand nothing more than the PM post. And who says Don is not capable. Enga has produced enough educated people to advise Polye to run the nation.Even the current chief secretary is his engan brother. We are more than capable of running this nation. Can someone tell Polye to stick his bum in Goroka untill we are assured of the PM post. Otherwise, we will continue to play second fiddle to the sepiks (somares)for the next 5 years. And in 2012 this opportunity may never come as PNG politics is very unpredictable.

Enga at heart...was engan..is engan and will be forever engan.

not only Engans capabale of advising Polye to run this crountry... his advise shouldn't be sort from people based on which provinve they are from.. The country belongs to 18 other provinces, so as long as the intentions are not self interest and motivated by goodness for this country and based on educated and informed judgement then Poyle should be be seeking advice from any papua new guniean not just Engans... he better not become like Somare and put engans in all places.

keaster,

A valid point!, however, I personaly wouldn't align or see any Engan educated elite working with Don Polye after knowing him very well and him being a close relative of mine.

During his past 5yrs as Kandep MP, a couple of educated elits from Kandep did work with him, some as first secretary to his ministry and several as research officers, however, they didn't last very long, before the last election, all of them were ousted for whatever specific reason I don't know, but talking to a few of them, showed the same sediment. Don was arrogant and very gealousy in nature, he wouldn't want anybody else to be higher/wealthier then himself.

A good example, you may probably heard of Paul Itiogen who was the former Chairman for CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) but for a short while, he was knocked down although Paul was Don Polye's first cousin. This was the very reason why Paul Itiogen challenged Don in the election.

For this, you'll notice that people would deter from being his associates after learning of Don's inner self.

On the other note, the Somare family will never give the leadership position to somebody other than their own family. The PM post will be bestowed upon old Somare's own son - Author Somare after the 3 years which is what the PM indicated today in the papers.

The old fella is going to hand over the PM post to his son since a loop-hole in the law can deny any re-election of the PM when somebody retires. The incubent has the capacity to hand over the leadership to whoever he wishes within the coalition.

Bye the way, the Sepiks will never ever give their leadership to someone else because they've initiated a lot of ill-conceived corupt dealings that they want to wash clean and see to a dead end before somebody else surfaces them.

Otherwise, "Keaster" your idea is not bad!

Chicko

Your comments are noted. Iam not a Kandepen, therefor do not know Polye personally. I would have thought if there was an opportunity for an engan for the PM post, this would be the moment. Your latter comments on elder somare passing the torch to the younger appears to be the strategy the old man is playing. That is why a pre-emptive action at this time is appropiate. Otherwise, no one will be able to challenge the old man in 3 years time when he appoints a successor as he has stated in the papers today. Another 3 years as PM with the nations resources at his disposal, and given the senile old man that he is, I will not be superised if he decides to pass the crown to his son arthur.

Kaims,
Important points being discussed here, its good to raise his hand now, though. If Don doesn't get the PM post now, it is less likely that he will make it later, Sir S retires. It is obvious that a coalition partner will also get the DPM post. Presumably, Don would be given a lesser Ministerial position, and empower Arthur with a senior Ministerial post to prepare him for a later contest. With Arthur and Patrick manovuering for PM for either of the 2, the time (2-3 years)is long enough for Don to be forgotten. This has happened to Bart Philemon (important economic wizzard) and there is high possibility that such Sepik behaviour will repeat itself. Pass the message on that someone should whisper to the ears of Don that he should insist on the constitution to prevail. Believe, he knows it already, anyway.

I believe its high time Polye and his highlands block persists with their lobby for the top job. They must not succumb to any fishy persuasions from the Sepiks if NA has to form the gov't.

On chiko's comment about Polye sacking Paul Itigon, well I got news for you.....I was living in Pom at the time and am telling you that it was the Public Accounts Committee led by Hon. John Hickey that stripped him off that acting position due to professional negligence and non-performance. One time, during the middle of the PAC sessions when they were having a recess....this Itigion disappeared and never appeared before the committee. He was removed from the acting position and was further declared that Itigon will never hold any top office again in the future.....had he won the Kandep open, there would have been a by-election anyway. Please don't make ludicrous accusations at people.

I authorise Don for PM if NA had to form the gov't otherwise I am with the Mekere, Bart team.

However much we may want Don Polye to be PM, the plain truth is that Michael Somare will not allow it to happen. Despite the party constitution explicitly stating that the region returning the highest number of candidates should choose the party leader, cunning Somare will circumvent it, as he usually does to the laws of PNG. He is exiting PNG politics soon and want to leave behind a legacy in the form of his very own son. That and various other selfish interests will spur him to hold onto party leadership at all costs. Unfortunately Don Polye will be a victim of Somare's stubborness. If the highlands NA faction and Somares faction do not come up with an amicable solution soon we will be likely to see Polye on the government's backbench.

If NA is invited to form the government, which is obvious from what has transpired, I'm afraid there will not be any other PM apart from the old pukpuk himself.

The Highlands NA MPs should lobby aggresively for other NA MPs and independents etc to give them number and hence bargaining power to wrest the party leader and PM from Somare and his band of power hungry faction.

Otherwise I think Bart and Mekere's alternate government is still ok for PNG.

Well thoughtout threads. Today's news is that, the Highlands faction settled for second best. They want the speaker and deputy prime minister and other economic ministers.

Shows how easily we can be screwed by the Sepiks. Take a look at Peter Ipatas who declared war against NA. He decided to team up with his enemy.. My gosh.. such prostitute attitude of politicians. Man the Sepiks must have had their way in from the back.. lol.. they are good at that so.. the Highlands faction and Ipatas must have had a good taste to let go of their would be stand and side with the old frog..

Its bye bye time for some of them who have their eyes on the Prime Ministers post. Junior Somare is the PM in waiting. Somare will definitely give it to him, that will prove the Sepik Tsunami theory...

Our highlands MPs are weak. They talk big in front of us but act little in the public arena. I was secretly hoping that the highlands NA faction could have pulled it off but it appears that the Sepiks are too smart for them. I guess I have to rest my case and look forward to someone from our generation to bring back the PM post to the highlands region. Hopefully an Engan PM material will pop in the 2012 elections.

61...good prediction regarding an Engan as PM in 2012 but I predict that an Engan will be PM in 2022. We should have a better governor in 2017 if they do not strip off the governor seat thruout the country by then.

Cheers
Naro

Hi Guys,

Most of us on this forum are sad and heartbroken or rather frustrated with the recent turn of events in the Enga political scene...

Well, it seems all ambitions and principles have been lost but I have one thing to smile for and that is....THE FUTURE IS MINE or more correctly OURS. Don't worry, fools build houses that never last but the wise sets his foundation on the rock. Lets use these events to build a solid future....I own the future, the current MPs don't own our future....we have the right to choose our destiny.

Keep smiling guys, never give up hope.

tapu malo,
you are 100% right that either of the 6 mps
do not own our future.
They are here 2day and will be gone 2moro.
they will not take enga or png with them.

The future is ours.
