Counting tradidtionally is carried out in the precinct of the capital. In the case of Enga, Wabag. If what was reported is true, Polye ought to be ashamed of highjacking established norms for personal gain. With limited resources and issues of transparency immediately surfacing, is it in Enga interest to conduct counting in differnt locations or district headquarters. Certainly not and if they are conducted, there will be many court cases contesting the victory (ies) which will lead to protracted court battles leaving the people in limbo. This has been the case with the Wabag and Wapenamanda open seats.

If the reported scenario is linked to the theory that Ipatas has the upper hands when it comes to the counting room etc..., then the most ideal measure would be to increase police personnel, particularly those from other parts of PNG. Those well known police in Enga who perform the handyman role for the Governor should be ejected from coming anywhere close to counting officials or the counting room.

Moving the counting to other parts of Enga is certainly not the way to contain the mysteries that surround surprise wins etc...

My thoughts only.

I agree with your point Sikita Tomape. There has been several instaces where counting has been hijacked in previous elections. How else can Ipatas claim in a previous newpaper report that, he has all the electorates in Enga in his bag, while campaigning hasnt really started.

Polye is an Engan isnt he, he knows something fishy is going to happen in Wabag. Mind you, people from around the vicinity of Wagab always have the upperhand in the counting room.

About, putting more police personal from outside the province in the counting room wont work. Police work has been impatial all throughout PNG and when people are desperate to cling onto power, all they will do is flush a few hundre thousand bucks during counting and police will shut-up. The police force is in question, many policeman that i know deal think of their own pockets and they will take the money that is given to them.

For impartiality, counting has to happen somewhere outside of the head-quarters in Enga. Don knows what Ipatas's motives are, and he wants to move the counting somewhere else. I agree with Don, but not in a sense having different counting rooms, but move the counting centre to some netral place. I wouldnt mind if they move the counting to Porgera. Porgera seems to be an ideal place to set up the counting room for the province.

It is well known and documented that, manupilation of counting has happened in Enga, and the only way to avoid that is to move the counting room to Porgera or some other places where it is neutral. Wabag is not neutral, there are people around that vicinity who have the upper hand in the counting room.

I agree with C_G1.

Clearly, "Operation Rausim Corrupt Ipatas" has begun for the benefit of the province! Commendations should go to Polye for attempting to thwart another Ipatas-manipulated election. Wabag is Ipatas' central stronghold where explosions, police bribery, cohersion and all forms of undemocratic practices occur in the tally room.

Rest In Peace, Ipatas! Your butt's been split 4-ways!!
