Word on the ground

Six ballot boxes meant for Wali Talua constituency in Kompiam District which were diverted to John Pundari’s home ground (Aiamates) and filled himself were brought into counting room for counting. Disgruntled candidates from both Kompiam Central and Ambum gathered and protested that those boxes be exempted from counting.

However, after learning that Electoral Commission had handed exclusive authority to the respective returning officers to use their discretion to either proceed on with counting of disputed boxes or not. Current returning officer is close associate of Pundari and having learnt that those boxes will be counted, the candidates from both Ambum and Kompiam protested that the returning officer be stepped down and replaced by totally different person who has got no connection with any of the candidates.

However, the returning officer refused to step down. That outraged the rest of the candidates and supporters. This afternoon Tit Karato’s tribe went for war with the returning officer’s tribe (Wakumale-I think Kali) and three people were shot from Tit Karato’s Tribe. One reported dead and two in critical condition, fighting for their lives. The counting for Kompiam/Ambum is temporarily suspended.

Message from Dicksom Maki through phone call this evening.

John Pundari is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE.
He is a DESPERATE POWER HUNGRY IDIOT who is bring bad name to Enga and Ambum Kompiam.

He did the same thing in the 1997 General Elections. People of Wali-Talua, Keman, Pina and many remote areas along that side did not vote.

Their ballot boxes were hijacked and diverted to Pundari's place in the similar manner and he won with a hugely inflated figure.

Mr Pundari MUST BE BLACKLISTED FOR LIFE. He must not hold any public office. He is a BRAINLESS CON-ARTIST.

Now, innocent lives have been lost due to one man's GREED and FOUL PLAY.

Such attitude is unbecoming of a former deputy prime minister, if what is said here is true. People have a constitutional right to choose their leader. Highjacking of ballot boxes basically defeats that constitutional right for those people, who are given this opportunity to choose their leader.

Attitudes such as hijacking ballot boxes and marking it yourself is unbecoming of a leader. Desperation can only motivate such attitudes.

I hope the law takes it cause and prosecute such individuals who hijack ballot boxes.

Such people who are hijacking ballot papers should be imprisoned and sentenced to jail with hard labour...and even have their name removed from the candidate list. The 'big mouth' Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen should do the right thing. People like Miki Keok of Waps Open, John Pundari of Komp/Ambu Open and the candidate, those involved in hijacking of ballot papers at Wakumale (Wabag Secondary School), and all other similar incidents thruout the nation should be immediately prisoned as these are all "CRIMINAL" in nature. When will we have an Electral Commissioner who will do the right thing in the name of democracy to uphold the nation???? Why not someone responsible do the right thing atleast once for the good of the country.

Oh, God please help us!

Thanks for the latest update but wonder where you got the information from as we understand that telephone system in Enga is down as of last Monday. Any way if it is a valid information, we do thank you once again for your kindness.

Nmenda,

Husait tokim yu? Kandak Palimb or Rex Neapukali? Can you send me Kandak's phone number pls? Phone system in Wabag is screwed up and hard to get updates. Even these two daily newspapers are very selective and not covering Enga Election updates. Very annoying!!
