In reply to: Freddie 's message, "For Sanso in Wabag (Ipatas Center - Enga Administration)" on Wed, Apr 18 2007, 06:24:06am

The theory of Freddie’s proposition would be supported in an ideal world but there are critical constitutional cornerstones that are bound to be tested if implemented.

The first being the election process is governed by the Electoral Commission through its Act and various legislations, the Provincial Government is only a facilitator of these laws and would require a major constitutional amendment bound to public debate and criticism. As 61 points out, the screening process is carried out at the pooling boot however; tight guidelines within the screening process of political parties by the Register of Political Parties would filter some of the leaders.

The second and the most critical constitutional battle would be the individual person’s freedom of candidacy which is the cornerstone for our democratic elections. It would certainly generate steep opposition from individuals and the Candidate Screening Process would be at the receiving end.

I like the idea of screeding candidates but I think the legalities of it might be the biggest obstacle.

This concept may need more modification to work within the current legal boundries.
