A Highlands Governor in Rape Case........Who is He..???

Todays News below ....

NATIONAL Capital District police are now ready to interview two parliamentarians in relation to allegations of rape and attempted rape of two young women in Port Moresby and in certain parts of the country.
Police have already completed investigations into the allegations, where they have collected statements from witnesses including parents of those girls and a psychiatrist as one of the girls had been psychologically traumatised by the experience.
Police confirmed they were now set to interview a governor from Highlands (named) and an Oro MP (named) in relation to the allegations.
Reliable police sources told The National on Monday that the interview was expected to be carried out anytime from now before polling starts on June 30.
It was alleged that the governor had raped a 17-year-old girl at Mt Hagen, Western Highlands province; Lae, Morobe province; and NCD between last Dec 31 and Jan 3 this year.
Police said officers at the sexual offences unit in NCD had obtained statements from the girl (the complainant), her parents, three students from the school she attends in one of the Highlands provinces (named), a male relative and two staff of a hotel (named) in NCD – one of the alleged venues where the girl was allegedly raped by the governor.
For the attempted rape allegations against the Oro MP, police said they had also obtained statements from the 18-year-old girl’s parents, the manager of the hotel (named) where the MP was booked into on March 13.
Police also got a statement from a prominent psychiatrist (named).
According to police, the girl is now suffering from traumatic stress disorder, a serious psychological mental disorder which is a type of condition people suffer after having been exposed to terrible traumatic incidents – including sexual attacks.
The officers said the report from the psychiatrist had stated that the girl had been having nightmares, hallucinations and did not sleep well.
“She is now suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the attempted rape on her,” the officers said.

Charge MP, says group

A PARLIAMENTARIAN from Western Highlands, who had allegedly raped a young woman and later decided to marry her, must be brought to justice.
Consultative Implementation Monitoring Committee's Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee (FSVAC) made this call yesterday and described the MPs action as disgraceful.

The committee had also called for leaders in the MP's area to ensure he was brought to trial and condemned the actions of those who had accepted compensation as a form of punishment for the parliamentarian's actions.
They said paying compensation for crimes such as rape in the Highlands hindered the efforts of those fighting for recognition of the rights of the children and women in PNG.

It aggravates the issues while perpetrators get away with crimes being committed and victims are left with long-term trauma and physical disabilities, they said.
The committee, headed by Dr Lawrence Kalinoe, said a leader in such a position should be immediately dismissed from office or resign to uphold the respect for the law and the dignity of the office he represented.
This is not an isolated case because we keep hearing rumours that many leaders are involved in such sexual activities and they (leaders) think that by being elected members or men with money in their pockets they can ask for any women or girl that they fancy, the committee said.
They said PNG needed role models and not elected leaders, who can use culture to hide from their crimes.

Elected leaders are supposed to be examples to the people they represent but this was sending the wrong message to people in the community, they said.
It also gave the impression to the world there were different laws for elected leaders from the rest of Papua New Guineans, and that it is alright for a child or women to be raped, they said.
The commmittee supported the Police Commissioner Gary Baki in his efforts to use the law and have the MP charged, urging the woman's relatives to co-operate with the police and ensure this happened

The news on Wed May 16 Says "a Highlands Governor (named)" and a "Oro MP" (named)......It is in fact NOT a Western Highlands MP.

The previous case with the Western Highlands MP has been dropped. This is a new Case.

Otherwise, it will obviously be Paias Wingti, but I'm not convinced its Paias. The Governor will be obviously from SHP or Enga

The papers have got it wrong. It is the western highlands MP. It is not a new case. Even though the people concerned have dropped the case, the law will catch up with the culprit and he will pay for his actions.
