When two corrupt Regional MPs/Governors collide, it could only be for the worst! Just a few months ago they were seen holding hands in public and now the true nature of their relationship as been revealed. A relationship of distrust based not only on a longstanding fued between the provinces (Enga/WHP) but also on an inter-personal level between the two politicians. Maybe Wingti should endorse Mr. Kundapen Talyaga and/or Daniel Kapi to run against Ipatas.

People’s Party avoids clash with Wingti
THE People’s Party led by Enga Governor Peter Ipatas will not endorse a candidate to run against Western Highlands province Governor Paias Wingti.
The party’s president Wera Mori announced this in Mt Hagen yesterday while opening the party’s Mt Hagen branch office.
Mr Mori did not state the reason why they were avoiding a clash with Mr Wingti but it is believed Mr Ipatas has forged a close relationship with Mr Wingti since he made his intention known to run for the prime minister’s post.
Analysts believed that Mr Wingti played a key role in wooing Mr Ipatas to the People’s Democratic Movement party in 2000, when PDM was under the leadership of then prime minister Sir Mekere Morauta.
Mr Wingti ran and won as an independent candidate in the 2002 general elections but PDM was soundly trashed, and a fallout led to Sir Mekere forming the PNG Party with Mr Ipatas.
Mr Ipatas was last year released from the party to form his own, and it is believed Mr Wingti is in the process of reviving PDM with Manus Governor Jacob Jumugot.
In making the announcement not to challenge Mr Wingti, Mr Mori said the party would endorse candidates for the open seats in the province.
He said he was confident that they would win four seats in Eastern Highlands, five in Simbu and six in Enga.
A businesswoman Racheal Maru is leasing the office space in Mt Hagen to the party at the cost of K1,700 a month.
Meanwhile, Mr Ipatas told hundreds of supporters, who gathered for the opening, that he was putting his hand up to be prime minister because in the last 10 years, small people in the Highlands region and other regions were deprived of basic Government services.
He said his party would fight for small people’s rights.
Mr Ipatas said the party opened its branches in Wabag, Simbu, Goroka and Kainantu last week.
