PNG so rich, yet so poor due; such possible bogus claims that robb majority of Papua New Guineans.
See the report below, taken from Post Courier (23/03).
Inquiry to look into K3.8b claims
THE Department of Finance Commission of Inquiry was told yesterday it will have to look into details of 2,677 claims against the State for over K3.8 billion between January 1, 2000 and July 1, last year.
The claims were for amounts over K300,000.
This is contained in a preliminary report presented to the inquiry by Heni Vada, the accountant for the Commission of Inquiry who also headed a team of finance investigators looking at payments made by the Department of Finance and the Office of the Solicitor-General over that period.
The report states that a total of K3,858,745,113.40 were paid out by both organisations separately over the seven year period.
The payments were in two categories one for court orders and other payments.
Payments categorised as Court Orders include default judgements, deed of releases consent orders and other court related matters.
Other payments include rentals, telephone bills, water charges, transfer of grants to provinces and overseas missions, superannuation contributions, royalty payments and so on.
Investigations are continuing to ascertain whether the payments made are fraudulent, illegal and improper.
