It will always be the wish of the people of Enga and PNG to have a great leader with vision. By merely watching Obama speak through the debates and general campaign, i have picked up few notable things that i want to point out.

1. First and foremost, Obama was a family man. His wife was the the rock on which he stood. He admitted that during his acceptance speech as the President-elect. Solidarity in the family unit propels a man to achieve greater things. A man who has no solid back-groud as a family man will never be a good leader. Leaders, have to know how to manage their family affairs first before they lead the people.

2. There is a saying "Birds of the same flock flutter together" This means, the team that Obama choose to head the campaign and become the tinktank for his rise to prominance were professionals and highly qualified people. Great leaders dont walk around with corrupt people, people with no integrity, hang around with questionable people, or recycled failed leaders. Leaders that want to maintain integrity and lead have to hang out with preofessionals with great standing in the society, who are making money through honest living, not through dubious means. Coconunts cant grow in the Highlands, they only grow in the Coastal areas. So as great leaders, they cant realise their potential leadership characters hanging around with failed, corrupt, dishonest bunch of closely nitted associates. In PNG, most leaders hang out with good for nothing, corrupt and failed former public service heads, failed politicians, corrupt leaders, greedy good for nothing idiots who has their influence on them. Have you ever seen, a good man before election turn to be an opposite when they enter parliament? The main reason is because of the company that they keep. Wise leaders will always take advise from wiseman and associate more with them. Leadership is not something that is prescribed in the text books, however, effective leadership is living it out, by learning from others around you. Most of our politicians hang out with the wrong crowd, instead of spending time with learned people, they spent time at the pokies places, and night-clubs where they get advise from drunkards, gamblers, prostitutes etc.

3. Obama was a very selective speaker, he chooses his words very carefully. I think, when you compare him with John MCcain and even the current US president. When John MCcain came out accusing him of several controversial things, Obama reacted calmly, and his words were selective, never avoiding the question, but answering the question with very selective words, that were thought out well. Even the current US president, does not have the skilles of Obama with words. I think in PNG, Sir. Mekere's words, when he speaks, he uses selective words that can make the point. His words can answer any unanswered questions and at the same time clarifies the situation. The current PM, Somare, i think does not possess such skills. This is a skill that a person is born with, and it all comes from someone's upbringing and most wise man use selective words to express themselves. I can say more but, i think you know what i mean. When you see Sir Palus Matane, i think you will see wisdom in every word that he speaks. When Obama spoke during the rallies, he uses selective words that can make an impact in the person hearing, such is the dynamism of great leaders. Words flow out from a wiseman trained hard by the tribulations of his life.

4. Personal Character and discipline is also very important factor that contributes to such great leaders. He never took side, nor he seperates himself from the issues facing America. He makes a stand where both oposition and those for an issue could come to amicable solutions.

Just a few things that i observed from Obama through his campaign trial, that most would be or current leaders should learn from.

Education is the way forward for our people, not magic and overblown fantasies. Americans are very very sophisticated people and they do the right thing when the need arises. In PNG and Enga, the loyalty is to the tribe, greed and ego....many don't know what it is like to stand up for what they believe is right whereas USA "change we can believe".

I sometimes wonder if we will ever reach this level of maturity, sophistication, independence and determination to stand up to DO what is right.
