Peters leads PNG Prime Minister's selection against Australia

The Australian Rugby League team is training in Cairns in preparation for its match against Papua New Guinea this Saturday.

Front-rower Steven Price says the game is the last opportunity for younger players like Nathan Merrit and Brett Stewart to claim a permanent Kangaroos jersey.

Price is expected to be made captain for the match and says the players will learn a new level of appreciation for the people of PNG when they arrive in the country.

In the NRL you know, when I went over there last year, you don't sort of see the people of Papua New Guinea they're out of sight out of mind and to know how much they actually know about the game and how fanatical they are about the game it really blows you away to see what sort of conditions they live in and what they're whole life is about; you get a real appreciation for what you do.

Meanwhuile, Keith Peters will captain PNG.

Coaches Adrian Lam and Bob bennett yesterday named a powerful forward pack to counter Australia's speed and skills.

Peters, 20 years old and of Samoan and Hanuabada heritage, representative career began in 2005 as part of the PNG junior squad that beat the junior Kangaroos in Townsville, he was on that squad last year and has also made Kundus selection.

He plays for Penrith Panthers along with fellow PNG team-mate Paul Aiton, who'll play hooker.

Bennett says the game will be used to highlight the battle against HIV/Aids.

The Australians are due in PNG today.

The PNG Prime Minister's Xlll: Ompahlus Kua, Tuu Gray Moari, Gimapau Keimelo, Francis Ray, Eki Ene, Keith Peters, Geno Kima, Nigel Hukula, Paul Aiton, Rodney Pora, Johnson Kuike, George Moni, Tom O'Reilly. Interchange Channel Aquila, Alphonse Kapil, Porian Bal, Wesley Benny and Nicko Slain.
