Thank you both for your thoughts and opinions on the subject! Your descriptions of a wholehearted, "true" and empathetic leader is by all means relevant!
Paiela Wane, you deserve a brief rundown of PK's experiences at the provincial and village level. Your claim that PK has spent most of his life in POM during his tenure in the public service is farfetched! For your information, PK served as Assistant Secretary, Senior Planner, Deputy Secretary and Secretary consecutively for the Enga Provincial government during 1985-86 and 1988-1993. PK is a true grassroots person and I have had the firsthand experience of witnessing his weekends passionately spent in Laiagam during our time in Wabag.
In 1994, due to excessive politics at the Green House in Wabag, he fled to greener pastures in Port Moresby where he took a job at the Office of Rural Development and became the first Highlands Regional Manager. Why waste your time playing petty provincial politics when you can do more at the national level?? Instead of playing provincial politics, he opted to serve his people at a national and bureaucratic level being responsible for allocating budgetary resources and foreign aid for long-term development projects.
Even during his time in POM, he spent much of his time in Laiagam trying to resolve tribal disputes and cooperating with village councillors and council presidents to provide basic services. (People in Laiagam have acknowledged his frequent occasions spent in Enga and have widely acclaimed that the Air Niugini is his "bus".) His achievements and contributions can be seen in education and include the establishment of the Aiyaka Top-Up Community School and Laiagam Vocational School. (You may observe these establishments on my tribal grounds on your way to Porgera or Wabag.) PK is even my personal inspiration for higher learning and academic excellence.
He also played a major part in alleviating the escalating tribal conflict that spread in Laiagam involving three major tribes (Walin, Tia and Pyain). Believe me if PK was not involved, we would have a lot of unnecessary bloodshed and widespread chaos today! PK is a Peace Advocate and is affiliated to all three tribes by blood and Moka. And believe me when I say he's the Moka Man with The CV, what more can you seek in a leader?? Ask any Lagaip dude of his village-based credentials and they should tell you? He has participated in village singsings (Maldi), gutted pigs and dressed in rags with a stringbag and bushknife on his belt. He even personally told me many times that whenever things would go bad for him, he would always return to the village where he could live on kaukau and water. And that is what he has been doing during the highs and lows of his time in the public service.
Political instability is the cause of opportunities foregone and inefficiencies of public resource management. As National Planning Secretary, PK was on the verge of implementing his revolutionary ADB funded-Neucleus Enterprise Project (partial to the National Medium Term Development Strategy) by creating the first set of test plantations in Laiagam where enthusiastic clans where willing to cooperate and donate portions of their land for such an enterprising project. However the aftermath of the 2002 National Elections ruined this plan and Honorable Kappa Yarka (who was a member of the NEC) provided no support. In fact, Kappa Yarka with some jealous intention, voted for the removal of PK at the NEC roundtable.
I am glad to say, that PK's support now goes as far as Mulitaka. Porgera will naturally tag along to the bandwagon in the not too distant future because of PK's positive reputation and public character. His plans for Lagaip/Porgera are in the pipeline and if he is elected, he will definately get them executed without hesitation because I believe he is the Ultimate Planner and Policy Maker. I also intend to play a proactive and extensive part in his visions and aspirations for the electorate!
I hope this satisfies your queries and lack of information. You may prove my statements by consulting with other Lagaip citizens.
